Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the Herff Jones Teacher Shout Out community and website. If you have a question that we don't answer here, please contact us directly.

What is Teacher Shout Out?

Teacher Shout Out (TeacherShoutOut.com) is a place to celebrate the difference that teachers, advisors, coaches and other educators make in people's lives. It's a community of heartfelt gratitude.

Can I still send a Shout Out if I am not currently in school?

Yes, please do! If your teacher is no longer actively teaching, simply click the "Just saying thanks" button at the bottom of the form. However, your Shout Out will not be eligible for the contest.

Who can send a Shout Out?

To send a Shout Out, you must be a legal resident of the United States, Washington DC, Canada (excluding Quebec) or Puerto Rico, and be 13 years of age or older.

How many Shout Outs can I send?

There is no limit to the number of Shout Outs you can send; however, you must submit them one at a time.

Do I have to submit a photo?

Submitting a photo is not required but encouraged.

What are the requirements to submit a photo?

You may only submit a photo that you personally took.

What types of photo files are accepted?

Photos submitted must be in .jpg, .gif or .png format and be no more than 2MB.

Why can't I see my Shout Out after I hit submit?

We want to make sure TeacherShoutOut.com is a positive community, so all submissions are monitored before they go live to ensure they do not violate our community content restrictions. You will receive an email once your submission is live.

How do I enter my teacher in the contest?

As you complete the Add a Shout Out form, in step 2 you'll see a box that says, "Enter my or my child's teacher, coach or advisor in the contest." Simply check the box and provide the additional information. Your teacher will then be eligible for the voting period.

Do I have to enter my teacher in the contest?

Absolutely not! TeacherShoutOut.com is a community of gratitude first, so feel free to just say thanks.

Who is eligible to win the Teacher Shout Out contest?

Any K-12 or college/university teacher, advisor or coach who made a difference in your life and is still actively teaching is eligible to win the Teacher Shout Out contest. The teacher must also be a legal resident of the United States, Washington DC, Canada (excluding Quebec) or Puerto Rico, and be 18 years of age or older.

Why is Quebec excluded from participation?

Unfortunately we are unable to open this contest to the residents of Quebec at this time.

When can I enter a nomination?

You can enter a nomination between 12:00:01 a.m. Pacific Time ("PT") on October 15, 2013, and 11:59:59 p.m. PT on January 31, 2014.

Can my teacher be nominated more than once?

Yes, your teacher may be nominated more than once. If this happens, we will tally all votes collected by the same teacher.

Can I still send a Shout Out after the nomination period is over?

Yes, after the nomination period ends you will still be able to send a Shout Out. However, your teacher or school will not be eligible for the contest prize.

When is the official voting period?

Voting starts at 12:00 p.m. noon PT on February 1, 2014 and ends at 11:59:59 p.m. PT on March 15, 2014.

How do I vote?

To vote for a teacher, coach or advisor, use our "Search" feature to find a Shout Out submitted for them. After selecting the educator's state, you can find submitted Shout Outs by entering their name, the city where they teach or their school's name. If you'd like to vote for other educators, we welcome you to browse through the nominees by going to "Read a Shout Out." Each qualified Shout Out will have a "Vote" button on the bottom left corner. You will be prompted to enter your date of birth, email address and a verification code. You will then need to check your email and confirm your vote before it can be counted.

How many times can I vote?

You are allowed to vote once a day until the voting period ends at 11:59:59 p.m. PT on March 15, 2014. Be sure to check your email after each vote to confirm your selection and make your vote count.

Am I voting for the Shout Out or for the teacher?

You are voting for the teacher. If a teacher has received multiple nominations, we will tally all votes collected by the same teacher.

When does the contest start and end?

Your Shout Out to be entered in the Herff Jones Teacher Shout Out Contest between October 15, 2013 and January 31, 2014 at 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time. If your Shout Out is not entered before midnight Pacific Time on January 31, it will not be eligible for the contest. You are allowed to vote for your favorite Shout Out and educator starting February 1, 2014. Voting ends on March 15, 2014, at 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

How do I make sure my vote is counted?

In order to make sure your vote is counted, you will need to confirm it. After you have voted for your favorite teacher, coach or advisor, Herff Jones will send a confirmation email to the address you entered. You will need to click on the link in that confirmation email. After you have clicked that link, your vote will be counted.

What if I can't find my voting confirmation email?

If you cannot locate your confirmation email in your inbox, we suggest checking your spam folder for a message from herffjones@teachershoutout.com. To prevent this from happening, you can add herffjones@teachershoutout.com to your email address book.

Why do we have to confirm our votes?

The confirmation process is designed to avoid fraudulent voting. We want to ensure that the Herff Jones Teacher Shout Out Contest is fair to everyone and that only authentic votes are counted.

How are the winners selected?

The two nominees receiving the highest number of votes for each of the five school categories below will be deemed the Grand Prize winners in their respective category.

  1. K-12 - less than 300 students
  2. K-12 - 300 - 499 students
  3. K-12 - 500 - 999 students
  4. K-12 - 1,000 + students
  5. Colleges and universities

How will I know what school size I'm in?

The school sizes will be determined by MDR data (schooldata.com).

When will the winners be announced?

The winners will be announced on or around May 5, 2014.

What is the Teacher Shout Out contest prize?

The winning teachers will receive a personal prize of $2,500 USD and a $2,500 USD donation to their school.

How will I know if I will receive a DonorsChoose.org gift code?

You will receive an email containing a valid DonorsChoose.org gift code if you are one of the first 1,500 participants to post a Shout Out on the website after the start of the contest on October 15, 2013. Use this gift code to make your online donation.

When will I receive my DonorsChoose.org gift code?

Once your submission has gone live and if you are one of the first 1,500 entries, you will receive a separate email with the DonorsChoose.org gift code information.

Why can't the website process my entry?

You may not meet the age requirement to move forward.

Why can't I enter my birthday again?

You may not meet the age requirement to move forward.
